HVFI Terminology
CREATING ART FOR PAN FACES
TRIM – Outer most edge of pan face. Trim size is generally 3/8” smaller than the cabinet size.
FLANGE – Flat area that fits behind the retainer
RETURN – Side if pan faces between flange & top edge of pan face.
PAN DEPTH (also referred to as the RETURN) Distance the pan face stands out from the flange.
This is angled in towards the top of the pan face unless the depth 1-1/8” or smaller. This distance
is based on the bulbs used to illuminate the face. If the bulbs are too close to the face you
will see dark spots between the bulbs.
– Flat surface that graphics are painted on or prints applied.
HOW TO CALCULATE PAN - FACE SIZE FOR YOUR ART DESIGN & LETTERING
STD (Standard) (2-1/4”depth): 1.5” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
AL & ALSP (2-1/4“ depth): 1.5” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
2-3/4”: .75” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
SP2 (1-3/4“ depth): .625” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
1-3/4”, 1-1/2”: .5” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
2” .4” + FLANGE WIDTH – SUBTRACTED from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
1-1/8”: SUBTRACT ONLY FLANGE WIDTH from ALL SIDES of TRIM MEASUREMENT
EMBOSSING – Raised shapes or letters.
For ¼” EMBOSSED - allow at least 3/8” – ½” spacing between letters or shapes so that it can draw down or form nicely.
For ½” EMBOSSED - allow at least ¾” spacing between letters or shapes.
FLARED – When the sides for the embossed letters or shapes are painted the same color as the embossed areas.
DIGITALLY PRINTED ART FILE
Send files no larger than 10MB. For pan faces with white return and flanges make print size ½” smaller of each size. For painted return and flanges make print size 1-1/6” smaller on all sides.
There will be a 1/16” overlap of paint over print. Please include PMS colors of items in file so that we know what colors to match final print to. (Printed and painted colors will not match exactly when sign is lite.) Always enlarge art to full size and view at actual size to make sure it is not pixelated.
IRREGULAR SHAPES
If sign is double sided always be sure to check your file for an irregular shape trim by copy and pasting shape then flipping the art vertically and aligning both to make sure they match exactly.
